We are a team of professional construction managers, engineers, management consultants, planners, scientists, and surveyors dedicated to delivering outstanding client service. We build lasting partnerships and collaborate with our clients to envision possibilities and create tomorrow, together.

Recognized as a top workplace, we’re committed to a culture that values work‑life balance, professional growth, and the well‑being of our people.

About the Opportunity

We are looking for a Survey Party Chief to join our Community Building team in the Greater Washington/Puget Sound region. This position may be based from one of our Puget Sound‑area offices, depending on the selected candidate’s location and project needs.

In this role, you will independently lead field survey activities and help turn field data into accurate, high‑quality project deliverables. You will support a variety of public infrastructure, transportation, utility, land development, and community‑building projects throughout the region while working closely with Professional Land Surveyors, project managers, engineers, clients, and other project partners. This is a field‑focused position requiring regular travel to project sites throughout the Puget Sound region and other locations as project needs require.

Your Role on the Team:
  • Plan, coordinate, and lead daily field survey activities, including boundary, topographic, construction staking, control, and as‑built surveys.
  • Direct and support survey crew members while promoting safe, efficient, and professional field operations.
  • Operate and maintain modern survey equipment, including robotic total stations, GNSS receivers, digital levels, data collectors, and related technology.
  • Review project requirements, maps, plans, record information, and survey instructions to prepare for field assignments.
  • Perform field calculations and confirm the accuracy, completeness, and integrity of survey data before leaving the project site.
  • Maintain organized and complete field notes, records, sketches, photographs, equipment documentation, and other project information.
  • Download, organize, and perform preliminary processing of field data for CAD production and office review.
  • Coordinate daily crew needs, site access, equipment, staffing, schedules, and changing field conditions.
  • Communicate proactively with Professional Land Surveyors, project managers, engineers, contractors, clients, utility locators, and other project partners.
  • Identify and resolve routine technical or delivery issues, escalating conditions that may affect accuracy, safety, scope, schedule, or project requirements.
  • Follow established survey standards and QA/QC procedures to produce accurate, defensible, and review‑ready work.
  • Support and mentor less‑experienced survey staff by sharing technical knowledge, reinforcing safe work practices, and helping the team meet project commitments.
What You Bring to the Team:
  • Progressive land surveying experience, including experience independently leading survey fieldwork or serving in a comparable crew‑lead role.
  • Experience with boundary, topographic, construction staking, control, and as‑built surveys.
  • Proficiency operating robotic total stations, GNSS equipment, digital levels, data collectors, and related survey technology.
  • Ability to interpret plans, maps, legal descriptions, record information, survey instructions, and project requirements.
  • Working knowledge of field calculations, data collection, preliminary data processing, and survey QA/QC practices.
  • Sound field judgement and the ability to organize daily assignments, adapt to changing conditions, and resolve routine technical issues independently.
  • Strong attention to detail and a demonstrated commitment to accuracy, safety, documentation, and high‑quality project delivery.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to coordinate effectively with crew members, office staff, contractors, clients, and the public.
  • Ability and willingness to work outdoors in varying terrain, weather, and site conditions.
  • Ability to travel to project sites throughout the region, including occasional overnight travel as project needs require.
  • A valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Trimble survey equipment.
  • Experience supporting public infrastructure, transportation, utility, or land development projects in Washington.
