Job summary

Urban Media Literacy in the Greater Philadelphia area seeks a part-time Instructor to lead media literacy courses for youth and adults, blending in-person sessions with remote planning.

You will design lessons, guide discussions on news, digital content, and critical thinking, assess progress, and collaborate with staff to align curriculum with organizational goals. Evening or weekend hours may be required; a Bachelor's degree in Education or related field is preferred.

  • Comfort with hybrid work, including using video conferencing, collaborative online tools, and digital resources for instruction.
  • Excellent communication skills, including clear spoken and written communication and the ability to lead discussions on sensitive topics respectfully.
  • Demonstrated commitment to educational equity, cultural responsiveness, and working effectively with learners from diverse backgrounds.
  • Organizational and time-management skills to balance planning, instruction, and reporting in a part-time schedule.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Communication, Media Studies, Sociology, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience is a plus
  • Experience in the Greater Philadelphia community or familiarity with local educational and community organizations is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate media literacy courses and workshops for youth, adults, or mixed-age groups in the Greater Philadelphia area.
  • Hybrid role with some sessions remote and others on-site at partner schools, community centers, or organizational locations.
  • Prepare lesson plans and learning materials, deliver interactive instruction, guide discussions on media and digital content, and assess learner progress through assignments and activities.
  • Collaborate with program staff to align curriculum with organizational goals, provide feedback to learners, and maintain clear communication with colleagues and partners.
  • Part-time position that may require occasional evening or weekend hours depending on program needs.

Role Description The Part-time Instructor at Urban Media Literacy will facilitate media literacy courses and workshops for youth, adults, or mixed-age groups in the Greater Philadelphia area. The role is hybrid, with some sessions and planning completed remotely and other responsibilities carried out on-site at partner schools, community centers, or organizational locations. Day-to-day tasks include preparing lesson plans and learning materials, delivering interactive instruction, guiding discussions on media and digital content, and assessing learner progress through assignments and activities. The Instructor will collaborate with program staff to align curriculum with organizational goals, provide feedback to learners, and maintain clear communication with colleagues and partners.
