Qualifications

Job Description

Experienced Manager in BDO’s Partnerships group responsible for advising clients on tax implications of business objectives and various partnership-specific items including section 704(b), taxable income allocations, capital account maintenance, liability analysis, section 734(b), 743(b) adjustment calculations, and TRA calculations. Applies knowledge to understand potential partnership taxation issues and assists in the preparation of partnership-specific computations. Key part of the leadership team of the Partnership Practice, participating in group development. Also active in process improvement, team‑building, maintaining client relationships, and providing guidance to other team members.

Responsibilities
  • Maintain and develop an in-depth understanding of technical and practical issues and opportunities regarding partnership taxation.
  • Identify when research is needed; frame issues clearly, report analysis concisely, and provide efficient research methodology.
  • Train associates and senior associates on research skills and help appropriately frame tax issues for analysis.
  • Assist with developing, recommending, and implementing methods to maximize client benefits and decrease client taxes while managing risk.
  • Implement applicable firm strategies and manage client expectations.
  • Supervise associates and senior associates on all projects, review their work and provide comments.
  • Train associates and senior associates on current software tools, provide performance feedback, and act as a career advisor.
  • Schedule and manage workload of associates and senior associates, and mentor associates, senior associates, and managers.
Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Bachelor’s Degree required; focus in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Statistics preferred.
  • Master’s Degree in Accountancy or Taxation preferred.
  • Six (6) or more years of prior relevant tax experience and/or public accounting, private industry accounting, or consulting/professional services experience.
  • Specialized partnership experience required.
  • Prior supervisory experience preferred.
  • Private equity experience (both fund and portfolio company levels) preferred.
  • CPA certification, Attorney (admitted to practice in a U.S. jurisdiction), or IRS Enrolled Agent (EA) preferred.
  • Possession of other professional degrees or certifications applicable to role preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with tax research databases and tax compliance process software preferred.
  • Superior verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to delegate work effectively.
  • Strong analytical, research, and critical‑thinking skills.
  • Ability to work well in a team environment.
  • Ability to develop and manage a team of tax professionals.
  • Ability to maintain client relationships.
  • Solid organizational skills and focus on details.
