Job summary

Alta California Regional Center (ACRC) is seeking a Participant Choice Specialist to support the SDP self-determination program. The PCS provides training and guidance to clients and Service Coordinators, helping with SDP spending plans and IPP development.

Responsibilities include outreach to the community, calculating budgets with IBCCTs, and coordinating with Financial Management Services to ensure compliant service plans.

Qualifications

  • Master’s or bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills.
  • Strong time management and organization skills.
  • Knowledge of developmental disabilities and related services; CA driver license and insurance.
  • Two years of Regional Center experience or vendor experience.

THE ORGANIZATION

Alta California Regional Center (ACRC) is a non-profit agency under contract to the State of California and for 50 years has provided the coordination of services to individuals with developmental disabilities. ACRC employs approximately 900+ persons working out of eight offices in a ten-county area. ACRC is one of 21 Regional Centers in California.

COMPENSATION

The below is dependent upon experience and education.

  • Participant Choice Specialist I: $24.80 - $28.69/hr.
  • Participant Choice Specialist II: $27.34 - $31.64/hr. (must possess 5 years of experience working in a Regional Center as a Service Coordinator / Participant Choice Specialist)
  • Participant Choice Specialist III: $29.10 - $33.68/hr. (must possess a master's degree and 1-year social work experience)
  • Participant Choice Specialist IV: $32.13 - $37.18/hr. (must a possess a master's degree and 2-years post-masters experience)

Note: Master’s degrees in Social Work, Human Services, Public Administration, Criminal Justice, Child Development, Special Education, Counseling, Psychology, Public Health, Nursing, Rehabilitation Counseling, and Sociology or closely related field.

The actual amount offered within this range will depend on a variety of factors including skills and abilities, education, experience, and other relevant job-related factors. It is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for the role.

THE POSITION AND JOB SUMMARY

This program provides participants with more flexibility and personal responsibility in choosing services and support through an annual budget. The Participant Choice Specialist (PCS) position includes training and support of Alta California Regional Center (ACRC) and our clients with the self-determination program (SDP). PCSs may be involved in outreach to the community, calculation of Individual Budget Certification and Calculation Tools (IBCCTs), providing resources to Service Coordinators (SCs), supporting SCs with client meetings regarding SDP, reviewing SDP spending plans, participating in the development of Individual Program Plans for clients, communicating with Financial Management Services (FMS) agencies, and any other tasks related to the self-determination program at ACRC.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Extensive sitting at workstation, in meetings, and in vehicle (50%+ of time); Frequent standing and walking; Adequate manual dexterity and coordination to operate standard office equipment, such as computer, keyboard and mouse, copier, scanner, etc.; Hearing and vision corrected to normal range for operation of standard office equipment, transcription of documents and administration of electronic records; Occasional bending, stooping, squatting, kneeling, reaching, and stretching; Occasional lifting of up to 30 lbs. while moving paperwork, supplies, and other office materials; Ability to independently visit off site locations (i.e. client, group, residential and day programs, etc.); Occasional travel outside of catchment area of distances of 100+miles.

JOB REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants must possess a Master’s or a bachelor’s degree in social work or a related field; demonstrate excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communications skills; have strong time management and organization skills; knowledge regarding current trends and philosophies in the field of developmental disabilities and possess a valid California driver license and automobile liability insurance. Two years of Regional Center experience, or two years of relevant experience working as a vendor for a Regional Center. Knowledge of developmental disabilities and qualifying diagnoses, and Knowledge of programs and services for individuals with developmental disabilities is preferred.
