Job summary

YMCA of Greater New York's Prospect Park YMCA in Brooklyn invites applications for a Part-Time Soccer Instructor to provide a fun, safe, and progressive youth soccer experience for children and teens.

You will develop age-appropriate lesson plans, supervise activities, enforce safety, communicate with parents, and uphold YMCA core values while collaborating with staff and volunteers to grow participation and skills.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Minimum of one year of experience teaching children/teens in sports.
• Knowledge of youth development stages.
• Content expert in designated sports activity.
• Ability to communicate effectively with members of all ages.
• Current First Aid or CPR certifications.
• Must attend YMCA Coaching 101 Training within 90 days.
• Must obtain CDC HEADS UP Concussion in Youth Sports certificate within 30 days.

Responsibilities

• Provide a fun, safe, and positive experience for all participants.
• Demonstrate strong service and hospitality with all constituents, including participants and parents/guardians.
• Create an all-inclusive and supportive learning environment.
• Teach progressive lessons and provide opportunities to demonstrate learned skills.
• Encourage a lifetime participation in sports and physical activity.
• Embody the YMCA Core Values.
• Work with the Supervisor to develop program objectives and goals for each session.
• Create a written lesson plan for the program session that is age-appropriate and progressive.
• Provide supervision of participants in line with YMCA program standards and guidelines.
• Modify lesson plans to meet participant needs.
• Emphasize teamwork and sportsmanship.
• Teach rules and fundamentals and enhance basic skills.
• Communicate with parents/guardians about progress and next session registration.
• Communicate about additional YMCA opportunities for their child/teen.
• Ensure equipment is safe and in good condition with monthly safety checks.
• Lead program promotion and recruitment efforts.
• Direction to volunteers or Sports Assistants as applicable.
• Understand branch emergency procedures and act appropriately in emergencies.
• Ensure cleanliness of the program space during activities.
• Inform the MOD of incident reports.
• Participate in meetings, trainings, and events.
