Job summary

Sasha Bruce Youthwork in the DC region is seeking a part-time Youth Engagement Specialist to support safety, supervision, and crisis intervention for residents ages 13–21 in our therapeutic group home.

The role runs overnight on Saturdays and Sundays from 11 PM to 7 AM and requires a High School Diploma or GED, 2–3 years in human services, a valid driver’s license, and commitment to ending youth homelessness and trauma-informed care. Training and supervision are provided.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2–3 years' experience in Human Services or related field.
  • Experience working with adolescents/young adults is preferred.
  • Excellent written and spoken English; valid driver’s license required.

Responsibilities

  • Monitor safety and conduct of house residents.
  • Provide clinical and crisis intervention as needed.
  • Report, plan, and implement weekday activity schedules.
  • Maintain logs and records of house activities.
  • Carry out emergency procedures and on-site counseling.
  • Participate in supervision meetings with the program director.

Program Summary

The Sasha Bruce Therapeutic Group Home is one of Sasha Bruce's newest programs serving children and youth ages 13-21 from foster care who present with an Axis 1 diagnosis. The program has a high level of structure, supervision, behavior management/modification, and clinical intervention due to the nature of the emotional and behavioral conditions.

Job Summary

The Youth Engagement Specialist is responsible for monitoring the safety and conduct of house residents; and providing clinical and crisis intervention, as needed. This position is part-time overnight Saturday and Sunday from 11 PM To 7 AM.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Responsible for reporting, planning and implementation of the weekday activity schedule.
  • Make regular house check inspections inside the building and in the area immediately outside and check individual rooms when necessary.
  • Maintain all necessary records, including but not limited to legible, comprehensive and accurate reports of house activities in the house log.
  • Provide crisis intervention and on-site counseling.
  • Carry out emergency fire evacuation, and emergency procedures in case of an illness or accident.
  • Provide office coverage, answer and record all phone calls and visitors.
  • Ensure supervision of house participants to include enforcing house rules and house safety.
  • Participate in training provided or recommended by the Agency, during non-shift hours, as required.
  • Participate in regular supervision meetings with the program director.
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Qualifications

High School Diploma or GED with 2 to 3 years' relevant experience in Human Services or a related field. Prior experience working with adolescents/young adults required.

  • Strong spoken and written English language skills, including report writing.
  • Possess a valid Driver's License; pass required DC clearances (and other states as applicable).
  • Experience working with youth, teens, and families dealing with trauma, crisis, and community stress.
  • Great work ethic, excellent time management, efficiency, problem solving, and customer service skills.
  • Possess good organizational skills, the ability to multitask, maintain confidentiality, and be detailed oriented.
  • Ability to work extra hours, attend meetings/training, when needed
  • Must have a commitment to ending youth homelessness, racial equity, inclusion, and issues central to Sasha Bruce Youthwork's mission.
  • Other duties as assigned.
