Job summary

Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church is seeking a part-time Director of Music to coordinate the worship life in collaboration with the Pastor. The role includes directing the choir, recruiting soloists, and ensuring musical support for weekly services.

The ideal candidate will have formal instrumental/choral training (Bachelor of Music preferred) and be able to accompany on piano or organ when needed. Strong organizational and collaborative skills are essential.

Qualifications

• Formal instrumental and/or choral training.
• Bachelor of Music desired.
• Ability to accompany congregation on piano or organ (when accompanist is off).

Responsibilities

• Rehearse and direct the church choir, preparing them to sing during worship 2-3 times per month.
• Recruit soloists and ensembles from inside and/or outside of the congregation.
• Work with the Pastor and Organist/Accompanist to incorporate diverse music into worship.
• Ensure musical support for worship services every Sunday, especially when the Director or Organist are off.
• Schedule and rehearse special music for worship services at least once per month.
• Secure substitute musicians as needed.
• Coordinate worship life with the pastor, Organist/Accompanist, and Office Manager.
• Attend Worship Ministry Team meetings (usually virtual).
• Recommend instrument maintenance with Organist/Accompanist.
• Submit music fund expenses promptly.
• Submit annual recommendations for music program expenditures during budget process.
