Job summary

Alfred Street Baptist Church in Alexandria, VA, is seeking a Part-Time Nursery Staff member to provide safe, Christ-centered care for children 18 months to 4 years during weekend worship services. The role requires weekend availability (Sat 4:30pm–8pm; Sun 6:30am–1pm) and adherence to safety and hygiene protocols.

Ideal candidates are at least 18, have a high school diploma, CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain), and will undergo background checks.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire).
• Reliable, punctual, and committed to the full weekend schedule (Saturday and Sunday mandatory).
• Successful completion of a criminal background check and sex offender registry screening.
• Must clear a child protective services (CPS) background check.
• Comfortable working in a faith-based environment and supporting the mission of ASBC.
• Excellent verbal and interpersonal communication with children, parents, and staff.

Responsibilities

• Maintain constant visual supervision of all children at all times, adhering to staff-to-child ratios.
• Follow proper check-in and check-out procedures, ensuring only authorized individuals receive children at dismissal.
• Adhere to emergency, evacuation, and health protocols.
• Follow allergy management, diapering, and hygiene procedures, including handwashing and gloves.
• Greet families warmly at drop-off and pick-up; communicate needs or concerns clearly.
• Incorporate gentle prayers, songs, and faith-based language into interactions with children.
• Model Christlike patience, kindness, and compassion in caregiving.
• Prepare the nursery space prior to services; sanitize after services and track attendance.
