PetVet Care Centers' Spring Animal Hospital is currently seeking a Part Time Veterinary Assistant to join our team!

Position Overview

Join our team as a Veterinary Assistant who supports the veterinarians and technicians in their daily tasks by cleaning and maintaining equipment, feeding, exercising and grooming patients, preparing and sanitizing surgery suites, restraining and handling patients, and performing clerical and administrative work. They deliver quality care for all patients and provide exceptional service.

Spring Animal Hospital in Long Beach, CA is a small but busy companion animal practice dedicated to providing compassionate, high‑quality care for cats and dogs while supporting the pets and families in our community. We pride ourselves on creating a positive, friendly environment where teamwork and excellent patient care come first.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide compassionate care to all patients
• Greet patients and owners upon arrival, take weight and vital signs
• Triage patients, perform physical exams, treatments, and administer medication as directed by licensed veterinary technicians (LVTs)
• Calm and soothe anxious patients
• Assist doctors and technicians with medication administration or patient restraint
• Perform laboratory tests and take radiographs
• Operate and maintain hospital equipment, including EKG, fluid pump, syringe pump, scales, anesthetic monitors, and other machines
• Fill prescriptions, calculate and administer medications, maintain documentation, logging, and security of controlled drugs
• Feed patients as prescribed, record appetites, recognize and report unusual conditions or abnormal behaviors
• Communicate positively with clients and ensure they feel comfortable leaving their pet(s)
• Educate clients about insurance, wellness, and medicinal plans
• Maintain cleanliness of the hospital each day; clean equipment, kennels and facilities using chemicals and supplies; ensure safe use of chemicals; complete laundry
• Bath and care for patients who stay overnight; ensure each animal released is clean and properly groomed
• Adhere to hospital safety and wellness regulations
• Understand and carry out oral and written directions
• Maintain accurate medical records
• Show up for work regularly; full‑time presence at work essential for every shift
• Promote hospital products and services and support the organization
• Respond respectfully with urgency to directions from DVM or LVT
• Perform any other duties assigned by the Manager or in specialty areas (e.g., dentistry, surgery, emergency, radiology, cardiology, neurology, internal medicine)

Qualifications

• Applicants must be 18 years old or older
• At least 2 years of experience in veterinary medicine (certification preferred)

Schedule

• Hospital hours: Monday–Friday
• Seeking someone who can work 3 days per week, flexible with scheduled days based on hospital needs
• Current schedule: Monday, Tuesday, and Friday — 8:00 AM–5:00 PM (lunch 12:00 PM–1:00 PM)
• Schedules typically provided 2 months in advance; occasional adjustments may be needed

Pay Range

$21.06 — $25.74 USD
