Job summary

Qualifications

  • Must obtain TAPT Certification of Pupil Transportation Specialist.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain Educational Logistics program for the Waller School District Boundary.
  • Maintain all routes and adjust as needed.
  • Coordinate with Registrars on bus service availability, pickup locations, and times.
  • Explain route design decisions to the public.
  • Assist in planning, implementing, and evaluating the transportation program to meet district requirements.
  • Lead in-service training and retraining programs for employees.
  • Promote safety and housekeeping standards in all work areas.
  • Answer inquiries about routes and drive routes in emergencies.
  • Assist in TEA reports preparation and investigation of incidents.

Job Title: Part-Time Transportation Router CDL

Primary Purpose: Develop all bus routes so that they provide the safest, most expedient way home for the students of Waller ISD.

Qualifications

Education/Certification:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must be able to obtain a Texas Class B CDL
  • Must be able to obtain a DPS Texas School Bus Driver Certification
  • Must be able to obtain Routing & Scheduling Certification
  • Must be able to obtain the TAPT Certification of Pupil Transportation Specialist

Special Knowledge/Skills:

  • Proficient keyboarding and file maintenance skills
  • Must demonstrate ability to communicate effectively with others

Experience:

  • Two years experience with School Transportation

Records, Reports, and Correspondence

  • Maintain Educational Logistics program for the Waller School District Boundary.
  • Maintain all routes making adjustments whenever necessary.
  • Work directly with all school Registrars in giving correct information on availability of bus service, pick up location, and times.
  • Work with the public in explaining why routes are designed the way they are.
  • Assist in the planning, implementation, administration, and evaluation of the transportation program to meet the requirements of the Waller ISD.
  • Assist in the establishment of and conducting in-service training and retraining programs for all employees.
  • Promote high standards of safety and good housekeeping methods in all work connected areas.
  • Answer telephone calls and inquiries concerning routes.
  • Drive routes in emergency situations.
  • Assist in preparation of annual TEA reports.
  • Assist in the investigation of all in incidents involving any district vehicle and follow up with interviews and investigation

Data Entry

  • Assist in the computer operation in the department
Other
  • Attend meetings as a representative for the Transportation Department when requested by the Director of Transportation.
  • Operates a school vehicle daily.
  • Serve as a substitute bus driver and/or monitor as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; school bus; two-way radio; safety equipment including but not limited to flares, reflective signs, and fire extinguisher

Posture: Prolonged sitting; frequent standing and twisting; occasional kneeling/squatting, bending, stooping, and pushing/pulling

Motion: Repetitive hand motions; frequent keyboarding and use of mouse; prolonged driving; moderate walking, climbing stairs, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and reaching

Lifting: Limited light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds) on a daily basis

Environment: Frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, noise, and vehicle fumes; regularly work irregular hours, and occasionally work prolonged hours
