Job summary

The Salvation Army Midland Division Thrift Store in Mattoon, Illinois is seeking a part-time thrift store worker to engage customers, assist with purchases, and transport donated items as needed. The role emphasizes cash handling, pricing, and shelf display, with a focus on teamwork and reliable execution of daily tasks.

The position is part-time (up to 25 hours per week) with a starting pay of $15.00 per hour, and involves standing, lifting, and operating a POS system to complete transactions

Qualifications

• High school or equivalent diploma and one year of related work experience.
• Ability to operate a cash register/point of sale computer to include accurate sales transactions and making correct change.
• Position requires communicating with and assisting customers and working as a team with other employees.
• Performing the required job duties well, with minimum supervision, is required.

Responsibilities

• Professionally engage and assist customers with their purchasing needs.
• Sort donated items as directed.
• Price donated items as directed.
• Prepare and place donated items on racks/shelves for display.
• Accurately operate cash register / point of sale computer transactions for purchased items including reconciling the cash drawer and assisting with bank deposits, daily.
