Job summary

University of Central Missouri is seeking a Lead Teacher to arrange and maintain a classroom that serves children from six weeks to ten years old, guiding their learning journeys and developmental progress.

You will observe and assess development, plan engaging activities, maintain portfolios, and collaborate with families and staff to support licensing and Early Head Start guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree or higher in a related field (as listed).
  • CDA – Infant/Toddler or Preschool credential.
  • Associate’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child & Family Development or Elementary Education.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education, Child & Family Development or Elementary Education.

Responsibilities

  • Observe, assess and assemble children’s portfolios with developmental documentation, notes, and samples.
  • Plan, write and implement lesson plans using room environments and children’s interests across developmental areas.
  • Maintain daily correspondence and reports on children.
  • Assist children in developing social skills and personal care routines.
  • Ensure a safe, clean, child-oriented classroom and supervise aides and volunteers.

Job description

Arrange a classroom to facilitate learning and meet the needs of each child individually. Serve as a Lead Teacher for a group of children that may range in age from six weeks through ten years, in a child care setting. Observe, assess, and assemble developmental records on children in their care. Plan and organize classroom activities/experiences to facilitate and enhance learning for the children in their classroom.

Serve as teacher of assigned classroom, to include: -100%

  • Observe, assess and assemble children’s portfolios to include: developmental documentation, anecdotal notes, learning experiences/goals, and pictures.
  • Plan, write, and implement lesson plans utilizing the room environments and the children’s interests with activities/experiences that reflect the following developmental areas: social-emotional, physical, speech/language/communication, and perceptual/cognitive skills.
  • Maintain daily correspondence and reports on children.
  • Assist children in learning social skills such as sharing, waiting a turn, using words to make needs known, as well as personal care skills such as hand washing, tooth brushing, etc.
  • Change diapers, provide toilet training or bathroom assistance as needed, keeping the children comfortable with clean hands and faces.
  • Consistently enforce center discipline policy, supervising children at play in an alert but non-intrusive manner.
  • Relate positively and in a friendly manner to children, parents, and staff.
  • Engage and play with the children to enhance their communication and social skills.
  • Show sensitivity to the needs of children and their families.
  • Demonstrate enthusiasm and enjoyment when working with children.
  • Maintain a safe, orderly, clean, and child-oriented classroom that facilitates learning. Supervise volunteers and student teachers working as aides in the classroom.
  • Attend staff meetings and participate in training opportunities each year, as scheduled or on-line to meet current licensing and Early Head Start guidelines.
Education:
  • Associate’s degree (Specify field(s) of study below), Bachelor’s degree (Specify field(s) of study below), High school diploma or equivalent
  • Child Development Associate Credential (CDA) – Infant/Toddler or Preschool OR
  • Associate’s degree in the following field(s) of study: Early Childhood Education, Child & Family Development or Elementary Education OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in the following field(s) of study: Early Childhood Education, Child & Family Development or Elementary Education
Experience:
  • At least nine (9) months of experience working in a formal child care program setting.
