Job summary

Educational Services Commission of New Jersey is seeking a Part-Time Swim Lesson Instructor for the AFC at ESCNJ. The instructor will continuously supervise swimmers, enforce pool rules, and report incidents to the Aquatics Supervisor, maintaining a safe and welcoming aquatic environment.

Required certifications include Lifeguard, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and CFSI through USSSA, with strong communication, reliability, and flexibility to work evenings and weekends as

Qualifications

• Current Lifeguarding certification is required.
• CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid certifications are required.
• CFSI certification through USSSA is required.
• Strong observational skills and the ability to remain alert for extended periods.
• Strong swimming ability and fitness to perform water rescues.
• Ability to react quickly and calmly in emergencies.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to enforce rules firmly and professionally.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Responsibilities

• Surveillance: continuously monitor the swimmers.
• Rule Enforcement: enforce pool rules and safety guidelines, communicating clearly to patrons.
• Incident Reporting: complete accurate incident/accident reports and report to Aquatics Supervisor.
• Pool Area Maintenance: keep pool deck and equipment clean and safe.
• Pool Monitoring: report water conditions and mechanical issues to the Aquatics Supervisor.
• Member Interaction: greet and assist patrons, maintain welcoming atmosphere.
• Training and Drills: participate in ongoing in-service training and drills.
• Supervisor Communication: escalate safety concerns to the Aquatics Supervisor.
• Other duties as assigned by the Aquatics Supervisor.

Position: Part Time Swim Lesson Instructor

Start Date: Immediately - Pending Criminal History Clearance

Qualifications:

• Current Lifeguarding certification required.

Reports To:

• Aquatics Supervisor

Function:

• The Swim Instructor is responsible for the continuous surveillance of their swimmer(s) and surrounding areas to prevent accidents and ensure the safety of their swimmers at the ESCNJ Aquatics and Fitness Center (AFC). The Instructor enforces facility rules, plans lessons and evaluates performance of swimmers, while maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming aquatic environment.

Responsibilities:

• Surveillance: Continuously monitor the swimmers.
• Rule Enforcement: Enforce all pool rules, policies, and safety guidelines, and communicate them clearly and professionally to patrons.
• Incident Reporting: Complete accurate incident and accident reports for any rescues, injuries, or rule violations, and report them to the Aquatics Supervisor.
• Pool Area Maintenance: Assist with keeping the pool deck, equipment, and surrounding areas clean, organized, and free of hazards.
• Pool Monitoring Support: Assist in monitoring and reporting pool water conditions and mechanical issues to the Aquatics Supervisor.
• Member Interaction: Greet and assist patrons, answer questions, and support a welcoming and safe atmosphere at the facility.
• Training and Drills: Participate in ongoing in-service training and emergency response drills to maintain readiness and skill proficiency.
• Supervisor Communication: Communicate with the Aquatics Supervisor regarding safety concerns, incidents, or other matters requiring escalation or guidance.
• Other duties as assigned by the Aquatics Supervisor.
