Job summary

Apollo After School is hiring substitute teachers for after-school programs in Ventura, CA. Seasonal position with a start date aligned to the school calendar for 2026-2027. Compensation is $21 per hour, with after-school hours Monday/Tuesday/Thursday 2:25 PM–6:00 PM and Wednesdays 12:00 PM–5:00 PM, PST.

We welcome candidates with childcare experience or related education. No degree required, though education degrees are valued.

Qualifications

• Experience working with elementary-aged children (ages 4–10) in after-school or school-based settings.
• Ability to manage a classroom and maintain a safe, structured routine.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills for working with children and staff.
• Flexible, reliable, and enthusiastic with a genuine passion for helping kids learn.

Responsibilities

• Provide a high-quality learning environment and manage activities that extend the school day.
• Assist in implementing classroom curriculum and weekly lesson plans when needed.
• Ensure the safety and security of children enrolled.
• Follow designated schedule and curriculum, maintain a routine for students.
• Effectively attract and retain students through enthusiasm, teaching skills, and patience.
• Assist with homework completion.

Compensation: $21 per hour.
Location: Ventura, CA
Starting Date: Seasonal Position (This position is seasonal and follows the school district calendar for the 2026-2027 school year.)
Hours:

• After Care: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, between 2:25 PM - 6:00 PM PST & Wednesday between 12:00 PM - 5:00 PM PST
  Exact start and end times may vary slightly depending on site needs; flexibility to start earlier or later is required. (On call, based on business needs)

As an Apollo Teacher, your responsibilities will be:

• Minimum of one year working with school-age youth, ages 4-10 in a school/after-school setting.
