Job summary

The University of Pittsburgh is seeking part-time Standardized Patient/Simulated Person volunteers for the UPSOM SP Program. This role involves portraying patients and other role-play participants to support medical education objectives, with flexible on-campus engagements and no prior experience required.

Training is provided at the start, and staff support ensures realism, feedback, and confidentiality in teaching scenarios. Evening and weekend coverage may be requested to fit the schedule.

Qualifications

• Reliability and punctuality are essential.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
• Flexibility, coachability, and self-awareness help in becoming a reliable simulation educator.
• Good memorization skills and strong attention to detail are advantageous.
• Basic computer skills and reliable internet access are expected.
• Ability to travel to and navigate the Oakland area.

Responsibilities

• Realistically portray patient/clinician scenarios with history, behavior, and findings
• Provide effective feedback to learners in teaching and testing situations
• Maintain quality control of teaching, testing, and other SP events via observation
• Provide back-up support for scheduling and event design changes
• Assist SP staff in set-up, breakdown, and proctoring of simulations
• Adhere to UPSOM/SPP policies and maintain confidentiality of learner performance
