Job summary

Job description

Essential Functions

The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

• Identifying students with speech and language problems through screening and referral;
• Assessing student's speech related needs using formal and informal assessment measures;
• Case load management;
• Developing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) based on identification, assessment, remediation and evaluation of speech, language, and hearing needs;
• Identifying children for speech, language and hearing programs by survey and referral;
• Annually reassessing pupils previously identified;
• Remediating all areas of speech, language and hearing disability through: scheduling of individual and or group therapy sessions;
• Conferencing, and coordinating speech-language services in the assigned school(s);
• Modifying programs to provide improved service;
• Developing and maintaining a record-keeping system of student progress through data collection;
• Referring students, when indicated, to nurses, psychologists, and others for further evaluations;
• Conferring with parents and school personnel concerning pupils with speech, language, and hearing challenges;
• Reporting on the progress of pupils receiving therapy at least quarterly;
• Serves on IEP teams of staff, parents, teachers, and others to develop IEP goals and objectives;
• Implementing behavior management as appropriate to the setting;
• Other assignments that may be delegated by the Principal, Director or designee of the Department of Exceptional Children

Educational Requirements

• Master's Degree in speech-language pathology preferred
• Certificate of Clinical Competence from ASHA preferred
• PSSP license from State of Tennessee or an equivalent

• Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of up to 50 pounds. Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or workstation.
• Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
• Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as rude/irate customers.
