Job summary

Geneva Community Unit School District 304 is seeking a part-time Special Education Bus Monitor/Aide to assist the bus driver and support students during transport. Pay rate is $20.50 per hour and hours are TBD.

Responsibilities include maintaining order on the bus, assisting with loading/unloading, and ensuring safety equipment is secured. The role requires strong communication with teachers, parents, and staff and the ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

Qualifications

• Ability to maintain proper records and documentation.
• Assist student loading, unloading and seating arrangements as required, including the ability to lift heavy objects (minimum 50 lbs).
• Understand and relate to children with special needs.
• Lift students according to established guidelines.
• Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
• Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Responsibilities

• Assist the bus driver in maintaining order on school bus; monitor and assist students while bus is in operation.
• Consult with and assist bus driver in documentation of student information, recordkeeping and completing route surveys.
• Assist driver in assuring seat belts, harnesses and wheel chair clamps are secured as required.
• Assist parents and school personnel with safe loading and unloading of students.
• Communicate with classroom aides, teachers, principals, and parents concerning student background, medical problems and behavior as appropriate.
• Maintain current knowledge of Emergency Evacuation procedures.
• Assist handicapped children on and off the bus; lift children as required; assure responsible adult meets students leaving the bus.
• Attend in-service meetings and training courses as assigned.
• Perform other duties as assignedMaintain regular attendance.
