Job summary

Animal Care Centers of NYC seeks a licensed Veterinarian to join our fast-paced, shelter-based medical team. You’ll provide advanced surgical and diagnostic care for a high-volume population and work with a dedicated team across departments.

With a 24/7 shelter, you’ll manage diverse cases, mentor staff, and help shape preventative health programs while upholding compassionate care for NYC’s homeless animals. You’ll collaborate with leadership to drive excellence in patient care and welfare.

Qualifications

• Licensure in NYS to practice veterinary medicine.
• USDA accreditation or eligibility.
• Strong surgical and diagnostic skills.
• Must be able to lift at least 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to shelter medical plan focused on population-based preventative health care.
• Perform disease identification and surveillance with daily rounds and health monitoring.
• Triage and examine species in shelter and foster care, stabilize trauma cases.
• Manage varied surgical caseload with oversight of staff during perioperative period.
• Issue Certificates of Veterinary Inspection and document cruelty cases.
• Liaise with pet owners, foster parents and adopters as needed.
• Promote teamwork and participate in trainings, strategy meetings, and population rounds.
• Maintain accurate medical records and assist in euthanasia decisions when required.
