Job summary

Hyatt Hotels Corporation in Austin is seeking a server to engage guests, take orders, and deliver food and beverages with a focus on hospitality. You will support daily restaurant operations and ensure guest satisfaction throughout service.

The role requires strong communication, the ability to resolve issues, knowledge of menus and wine, and adherence to safety and alcohol service policies while collaborating with fellow team members to create memorable experiences for guests.

Qualifications

  • High School diploma or GED is required.
  • Six months related experience in hospitality or service.
  • TABC and ServeSafe certification required.
  • Must be able to read, write and understand workplace language.
  • Ability to write routine reports and employ math basics.

Responsibilities

  • Escort customers to their tables and present menus.
  • Describe menu items and wine selections to guests.
  • Take and manage orders; communicate timing and delays.
  • Ensure guests' dietary needs and special requests are noted.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety; assist with food running when needed.

The person having this position must have good communication skills, the ability to resolve conflict and a thorough understanding of Bunkhouse policies. Key Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to all standards of operations, policies and procedures, manuals, training material, memos, and verbal instruction
  • Escort customers to their tables
  • Present menus to patrons and answer questions about menu items, making recommendations upon request
  • Describe and recommend wines to customers
  • Check patrons' identification to ensure that they meet minimum age requirements for consumption of alcoholic beverages
  • Explain how various menu items are prepared, describing ingredients and cooking methods
  • Serve food or beverages to patrons, and prepare or serve specialty dishes at tables as required
  • Inform customers of daily specials
  • Write patrons' food orders on order slips, memorize orders, or enter orders into computers for transmittal to kitchen staff
  • Take orders from patrons for food or beverage
  • Must see to each guests’ special needs (i.e. dietary, splitting dishes, paying special attention to children)
  • Garnish and decorate dishes in preparation for serving
  • Assist with running of food
  • Check with customers to ensure that they are enjoying their meals and take action to correct any problems
  • Manage order times and informs guests of any delays in service and informs management
  • Suggests and describes desserts or coffee at the completion of the guests’ meal
  • Prepare checks that itemize and total meal costs and sales taxes and collect payments from customers
  • Remove dishes and glasses from tables or counters, and take them to kitchen for cleaning
  • Clean tables or counters after patrons have finished dining
  • Prepare tables for meals, including setting up items such as linens, silverware, and glassware
  • Perform food and beverage preparation duties such as preparing salads, appetizers, and cold dishes, portioning desserts, brewing coffee, preparing hot or cold drinks, chilling wine
  • Stock service areas with supplies such as coffee, food, tableware, and linens
  • Fill salt, pepper, sugar, cream, condiment, and napkin containers
  • Bring wine selections to tables with appropriate glasses, and pour the wines for customers
  • Always ensure open lines of communication with all departments and upper management via email, logbooks, meetings, etc., to ensure all needs of the hotel are met
  • Maintain a high level of cleanliness and safety in the work area
  • Ensure that all equipment is maintained in good, safe working condition
  • Maintain an increased awareness of safety issues throughout the property
  • Keep abreast of safety and emergency procedures and OSHA requirements
  • Attend relevant meetings

Based upon fluctuating demands of the operation and to exceed customer expectations, it may be necessary to perform a multitude of different functions not specifically related to this position. This person may be expected to perform other tasks and duties as needed or as directed. Furthermore, employee responsibilities and job descriptions are subject to review and revision.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Six (6) months related experience in hospitality or service industry
  • TABC and ServeSafe certification required
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) of the workplace
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of co-workers and sister property staff
  • Ability to understand other computer programs (i.e. Property Management System and Point of Sale)
  • Ability to apply concepts of math including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
