Qualifications

  • Possess training and permits, licenses, and clearances for the site.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, schedule, and supervise security personnel to cover shifts and events.
  • Manage first response to emergencies and conduct mobile patrols and inspections.
  • Oversee access control, crowd control, traffic enforcement, and investigations.
  • Prepare written incident and logbook reports for site leadership.
  • Ensure compliance with SOPs and NASA security regulations for weapons and property.
  • Maintain equipment and ensure post staffing coverage during absences.
  • Provide training and ensure officers are familiar with duties and changes.
  • Perform duties including searches, arrests, and contingency post operations.

Description

This is a part-time, non-exempt position. The Security Police Officer -Captain is primarily responsible to ensure that contractual obligations are met during respective shifts. The SPO-Captain is responsible for exercising leadership, maintaining high morale, and the management and supervision of all security personnel assigned to the shift. Duties include but are not limited to managing first response to emergencies, mobile patrols, access and crowd control, inspections and searches, traffic enforcement, traffic investigations, arrest, and contingency posts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Follow all company personnel and safety policies and perform all assigned duties in a safe work manner.
  • Have complete knowledge of the site, all buildings and facilities, post orders, emergency contact list, emergency procedures, special instructions, and all post duties at the site as they relate to their respective shifts.
  • Schedule, manage, and supervise security personnel to cover special events or emergencies.
  • Administer instructions to all security personnel assigned to their shift and assure that all officers assigned to their shift are familiar with the facility and their duties. Will also be certain that all officers assigned to their shift receive and understand new, changed, or special instructions.
  • Exercise physical force up to and including deadly force.
  • Accountable for the proper use and maintenance of all equipment used at the site by the officers assigned to the shift.
  • Manage the staffing of posts during the shift to ensure complete coverage. This includes, but is not limited to, coverage for vacations, illness, and call-offs.
  • Ensure that officers assigned to their shift make timely and thorough logbook entries and will audit all logbook entries for completeness, accuracy, and legibility.
  • Prepare written reports for submission to site leadership for all injuries involving security personnel assigned to the site. All reports concerning incidents compromising security such as thefts and break-ins, as well as all significant incidents involving security personnel.
  • Follow applicable standard operating procedures and NASA regulations pertaining to security of weapons, buildings, personnel, NASA property and equipment.
  • Conduct personnel, vehicular, building, & facility checks and package and parcel inspections.
  • Work flexible hours to include weekends and holidays.
  • Supervises employees on shift.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
  • Minimum High School Diploma or GED.
  • Be at least 21 years of age.
  • Honorably discharged (If Applicable) from the US Armed Forces.
  • Meet all Firearms qualifications.
  • Supervisory experience preferably with a civilian police force, military police force, or civilian security guard organization.
  • Possess significant background, either through experience and/or education, in basic security guard procedures including supervision policies and procedures.
  • Possess experience in making decisions affecting security personnel in accordance with policies and procedures.
  • Successfully completed all training and have obtained all required permits, licenses, certifications, and security/medical clearances for the site.
Skills, Certificates, Licenses, Registrations, Clearance
  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
  • Possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license.
  • Possess and maintain a Secret Clearance.
  • At minimum, one-year of onsite experience at White Sands Test Facility.
  • Working knowledge of a variety of computer software applications in word processing, spreadsheets, database, (such as: MSWord, Excel, Access, PowerPoint), and Outlook.
  • Completed or be able to complete NASA Orientation Course.
  • Completed or be able to complete NPSTA Federal Arrest Authority Course.
  • Completed or be able to complete Hazardous Waste Operations and Emergency Response course.
  • Speak, read, write, and understand the English language, apply written rules, detailed orders, instructions and training material.
  • Have no record or history of illegal drug use, sale, possession, or manufacture.
  • Have no felony convictions and no convictions that reflect on the individual’s reliability including those crimes classified under the Lautenberg Act.
  • Be able to maintain and qualify periodically on a course of fire with handgun, or other special weapons.
  • Be able to meet and maintain NASA Physical Certifications.
  • Be able to successfully pass all required psychological examinations.
  • Be able to meet drug testing and alcohol – free workforce requirements to include random drug and/or alcohol testing.

During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
