Job summary

City of South Salt Lake is seeking a Crossing Guard to prepare crossing zones and assist children in crossing streets safely before and after school. The role involves stopping traffic when needed, setting up flashing lights and warning cones, and ensuring a safe route for students.

This position is non-exempt, hourly, with a typical schedule around ten hours per week. Graduation from high school or GED is required, and familiarity with Utah traffic laws is preferred.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of current Utah traffic laws.
• Reliable communication skills, both verbal and written.
• Ability to follow instructions accurately.
• Ability to work well with children, parents, and school staff.
• Basic computer skills for record-keeping and reporting.
• Knowledge of emergency procedures.

Responsibilities

• Assist children in crossing streets safely while traveling to and from school.
• Prepare school crossing zones by turning on flashing lights and placing warning cones.
• Take children safely across, watching traffic and stopping cars when necessary.
• Participate in special events as requested by school admins or sergeant.
