Job summary

Five Stride Skate Shop in NE Portland is seeking a part-time assistant manager to help run the daily operations of our retail roller skate shop. The role offers 20–30 hours per week with Saturday availability required, and involves working closely with one of the owners to lead a small team and deliver personalized customer service.

You'll help customers select and fit skates, manage POS transactions, process orders, maintain merchandise, and mentor fellow Sales Associates, with emphasis on

Qualifications

• Available to work Saturdays
• Experience or interest in roller skating
• Previous retail management experience in a high volume, customer focused retail environment
• Ability to self-motivate, take initiative, and manage time effectively
• Ability to shift between tasks with customer service being a top priority
• Excellent people skills; ability to listen, communicate, and relate to others on a personal level
• Excellent communication skills; including knowing when to ask for help
• Responsible, reliable, and punctual
• Ability to problem-solve on the fly
• Familiarity with Google Docs, Word, and Excel is a must
• Able to lift 30 pounds and lift boxes overhead

Responsibilities

• Provide a friendly and welcoming environment for customers
• Provide individualized support to each customer
• Fit customers for skates by measuring feet and recommending a boot
• Explain the benefits and functions of products
• Provide information about warranties, care, and maintenance
• Receive and process cash and credit payments through POS
• Submit special orders with vendors
• Complete a sales record and prepare weekly sales reports
• Organize and process merchandise exchanges
• Process incoming skate repairs and services
• Maintain appearance of the sales floor and replenish stock
• Keep store clean and tidy
• Stay current with shop products and pricing
• Unpack orders and manage inventory in the POS system
• Ship customer orders and assist with online orders
• Update product information for online shop
• Be responsible for shop email responses
• Provide support/mentoring for other Sales Associates & new staff
