Job summary

The Town of Smithfield is seeking a part-time Dispatcher to provide radio dispatching for the Smithfield Police Department and to handle citizen requests with professional accuracy.

Responsibilities include answering calls, dispatching units via radio, maintaining CAD records, and supporting public safety operations. Knowledge of NCIC and related software is required; on-the-job training will be provided.

Qualifications

• Must possess a high school or general equivalency diploma (GED).
• Must possess proficiency in typing skills and Microsoft Word Processing System.
• Must be able to complete an on-the-job training period.
• Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Must possess at least one year of police dispatching experience and at least one year of experience with law enforcement dispatch & records management system software.

Responsibilities

• Answer incoming emergency and non-emergency telephone calls.
• Dispatch public safety personnel and equipment, via radio, to calls for service.
• Record incoming complaint information through the Department's CAD system.
• Monitor public safety personnel activities through the CAD system.
• Disseminate information via e-mail and CAD systems, when required.
• Operate the NCIC computer.
• Make telephone and radio calls for police-requested support services.
• Operate a multi-line phone system with 9-1-1 lines and multiple extensions.
• Operate the telephone/radio transmission recording system.
• Direct walk-in requests for service to proper office in a professional manner.
• Keep Shift Commanders abreast of officer activity and calls for service.
