Job summary

Linn County Department of Health Services’ Mental Health Department is seeking a part-time Psychiatrist - Adult to provide outpatient psychiatric services for adults with a range of developmental, behavioral, addiction and mental health issues. The role includes assessments, medication management, and collaboration with the treatment team on interventions.

On-site work is required with no remote option. Requires medical degree, psychiatry residency, and board-certified or board-eligible status;

Qualifications

• Medical degree plus successful completion of a psychiatry residency.
• Board certification in psychiatry is desirable though not required.
• Professional experience with diverse clinical populations is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform psychiatric evaluations including differential diagnosis.
• Collaborate in development of individual habilitation and/or treatment plans as a full team member.
• Sign-off on treatment plans when appropriate.
• Prescribe psychiatric medications and monitor via nursing/case management collaboration.
• Provide psychiatric consultation and medical supervision.
• Consult with allied community agencies with emphasis on primary care physicians.
• Conduct court-appointed examinations for civil commitments hearings.

Psychiatrist - Adult

Mental Health Department (Classification 776)

Non-Union Part-Time (30 hours/week) position

Linn County requires on-site work. Remote work is not available.

This is a part-time position performing outpatient psychiatric services for adults with a variety of developmental, behavioral, addiction and mental health issues. Provide psychiatric assessments with differential diagnoses, ability to prescribe and supervise medication management clients, and collaborate with the treatment team for treatment interventions. Provide psychiatric consultation to local physicians and develop working relationships to easily transition clients back to PCP care. Review and approve client treatment plans. Formal clinical supervision, to include psychiatric residents, as assigned by the Program Manager. Supervision of Psychiatric Nurses and Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners will be performed through the use of standing orders. Assign responsibilities, provide direction, advise and consult on problems and interpretations of laws and regulations; participate in the selection of new personnel and assign duties, and provide training.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Perform psychiatric evaluations including a differential diagnosis.


• As a full team member, collaborate in the development of individual habilitation and/or treatment plans.


• Perform \"physician sign-off\" on individual habilitation and/or treatment plans when such plans adequately address the needs of the client.


• Prescribe psychiatric medications and collaborate with case management and nursing staff to facilitate appropriate medication monitoring.


• Provide psychiatric consultation and medical supervision.


• Provide psychiatric consultation to allied community agencies with an emphasis on the primary care physician.


• Perform court appointed examinations for civil commitments hearings.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

Thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of community and hospital psychiatry. Considerable knowledge of community mental health principles and practices including a wide range of treatment modalities and assessment techniques. Reasonable knowledge of psychological and personality testing and their application to the diagnosis and treatment of mentally ill persons. Advanced professional level skills in psychotherapy, medication management and differential diagnosis. Advanced ability to deal therapeutically with persons who have mental or emotional disturbances, and other development disabilities, and/or alcohol and drug abuse problems. To quickly develop therapeutic relationships even with resistant clients and their families. Ability to conduct thorough, in-depth interviews, assessments, evaluations and to effectively interpret the information in the formulation of diagnosis and a treatment plan. Considerable ability to provide leadership in fostering coordination and consistency among medical, psychological and psychosocial approaches to client care.

EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION AND TRAINING

• Medical degree plus successful completion of a residency program in psychiatry


• Board certification in psychiatry is desirable although not required


• Professional experience with diverse clinical populations is preferred


• Must be able to pass a criminal history check and possess or obtain a valid Oregon driver's license with an acceptable driving record that meets the County's requirements.
