Job summary

Safer Human Medicine is seeking a Part-Time Pressure Washing Technician to support daily animal care operations by cleaning, sanitizing, and preparing animal cages, racks, equipment, and related work areas.

This is a physically demanding, hands-on role requiring pressure-washing equipment, lifting, and working in warm conditions while wearing PPE. The early-morning shift runs from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., and candidates should be comfortable around animals and cleaning agents.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Must be able to consistently work an early morning shift.
  • Experience in sanitation, animal care, custodial work, pressure washing, industrial cleaning, veterinary environments, or similar physically demanding work is preferred but not required.
  • Ability to safely operate a pressure washer and other cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to safety, cleanliness, and detail.
  • Reliable attendance and punctuality are required.
  • Comfortable working around animals, animal waste, water, cleaning agents, and disinfectants.

Responsibilities

  • Operate pressure-washing equipment and other cage-washing and sanitation equipment safely and effectively.
  • Clean, sanitize, and disinfect animal cages, racks, pans, feeders, equipment, and other animal care materials.
  • Lift, move, load, unload, and reposition cages and related equipment throughout the work area.
  • Remove bedding, waste, debris, and other materials prior to washing and sanitation.
  • Prepare clean cages and equipment for reuse by animal care staff.
  • Maintain cleanliness of cage-wash areas, floors, drains, equipment, and surrounding workspaces.
  • Properly handle and dispose of animal waste and other materials in accordance with facility procedures.
  • Follow established infection-control, biosecurity, sanitation, and PPE requirements at all times.
  • Monitor pressure-washing and cage-washing equipment and promptly report maintenance or safety concerns.
  • Assist with moving, organizing, and storing animal care supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Follow facility standard operating procedures, safety requirements, and applicable regulatory standards.
  • Work cooperatively with Animal Technicians and other animal care staff to support daily operations.
  • Perform other animal care support, sanitation, or facility-related duties as assigned.

Position Summary

Part-Time Pressure Washing Technician supports daily animal care operations by cleaning, sanitizing, and preparing animal cages, racks, equipment, and related work areas.

This is a physically demanding, hands‑on position that requires the use of pressure-washing equipment, frequent lifting and movement of cages and equipment, and the ability to work in warm or hot conditions while wearing required personal protective equipment (PPE).

This position works an early-morning shift from 6:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Physical and Environmental Requirements

Candidates must be able to:

  • Frequently lift, carry, move, and reposition cages, equipment, and supplies.
  • Lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
  • Push and pull loaded cages, racks, carts, and other equipment.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Frequently bend, stoop, squat, reach, twist, and perform repetitive movements.
  • Safely use pressure-washing equipment for extended periods.
  • Work in wet, humid, warm, and hot conditions.
  • Perform physically demanding work in outdoor or non-climate-controlled environments as required.
  • Work around water, animal waste, cleaning products, disinfectants, and strong odors.
  • Safely work on wet or slippery surfaces.
  • Wear required PPE throughout assigned tasks, which may include gloves, protective clothing, masks or respirators, face shields, boots, and other protective equipment.
  • Perform physical work while wearing PPE in warm or hot conditions.
Preferred Experience

Experience in one or more of the following areas is preferred:

  • Pressure washing
  • Cage washing or animal facility sanitation

  • Laboratory animal care
  • Veterinary or kennel environments
  • Custodial or environmental services
  • Warehouse, agricultural, or other physically demanding work environments
