  • Receive payments and balance cash drawers; conduct daily deposits.
  • Mail runs and distribution of office mail and faxes.
  • Enter false alarm notifications and tracking.
  • Organize and maintain Records Section files.
  • Administer the Salvation Army voucher program.

Job description

The Police Support Services is the initial point of contact for Police Department services, telephonically, electronically and in person. Performs a variety of clerical and administrative duties. Reviews and forwards RMS reports. Responds to requests for disclosure of police records, enters data into various official databases, performs background investigations for Concealed Pistol Licenses. This is a part-time, sixteen hour per week position.

  1. Primary contact with visitors, in person or by telephone, to the police department and responds to a variety of requests and inquiries telephonically, electronically, and in person, assisting whenever possible or making appropriate referrals.
  2. Daily report routing and responding to report requests from other law enforcement agencies and prosecutors.
  3. Responds to public disclosure requests of a routine nature in accordance with State law.
  4. Enters arrest warrants into state, federal and local databases, clearing and canceling of same when needed.
  5. Enters, clears, provides quality control (2nd party checks), confirms, and cancels warrants and protection orders from local, state, and federal databases. Monitors incoming purge and expiration notices on same to ensure accuracy of these files.
  6. Scans documents into the Records Management System and general office filing.
  7. Performs fingerprinting services.
  8. Performs local background checks relating to employment, foreign travel, and criminal investigations and issues Clearance Letters.
  9. Performs background checks on Concealed Pistol License applicants, issuing licenses where applicable or referring potential denials to the Support Services Lead for further research.
  10. Receives payments for a variety of services. Performs cash drawer balancing and daily deposits.
  11. Performs mail runs to Post Office and City Hall as needed. Sorts and distributes office mail and incoming faxes.
  12. Enters false alarm notifications and tracking.
  13. Organizes and maintains various informational files used in the Records Section
  14. Administers the Salvation Army voucher program.
  1. This position requires a high school diploma or GED and a minimum of two years of experience in a law enforcement department, criminal justice agency or other legal experience.
  2. Proficient with various computer software programs including MS Office suite; typical office equipment; keyboarding skills.
  3. Knowledge of business English including composition, spelling, grammar, punctuation and letter format.
  4. Must become certified in Washington State Patrol ACCESS Level II within 6 months of hire.
  5. Ability to use good judgment and appropriate initiative, make reasoned and proper decisions within scope of knowledge quickly and objectively in urgent situations.
  6. Ability to maintain confidentiality and security of information.
  1. Criminal convictions: Felony convictions are disqualifying. Misdemeanor arrests and/or convictions will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
  2. Physical ability to perform essential functions of the job.
  3. Will be required to successfully complete polygraph examination, background check, drug test and credit checks.
