Job summary

The City of Peoria, AZ is seeking a Planning Internship student to assist on a variety of public planning projects in a fast-paced municipal setting. You will conduct research, prepare maps and graphics, support public outreach, and help evaluate design proposals while gaining real-world experience in local government planning.

This part-time, non-benefited role offers collaboration with professional planners, exposure to zoning, general plans, GIS workflows, and opportunities for college credit

Qualifications

• Enrollment in an accredited college with at least one year of planning-related coursework.
• Basic knowledge of land use planning and public policy impacts.
• Strong written and oral communication and research/analytic abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office, GIS, and Adobe Suite.
• AZ Driver’s License valid upon hire; 18+ years old.

Responsibilities

• Assist planners in evaluating project designs and technical documents.
• Prepare maps, graphics, and planning reports.
• Conduct field work and collect parcel data; search land records.
• Facilitate public meetings and outreach events for planning projects.
• Research and update inventory for open space networks and trails.
• Support code updates, General Plan amendments, and design guidelines.
• Collaborate with team in a part-time, public-sector setting.
