Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Performs venipuncture and capillary blood collection (finger and heel sticks) per policies to ensure accurate and timely specimen collection.
• Ensures positive patient identification using two identifiers and proper bedside labeling.
• Prepares, packages, and transports specimens to the laboratory while maintaining sample integrity and safety.
• Explains procedures to patients, providing reassurance and addressing concerns.
• Cleans, sterilizes, and maintains phlebotomy equipment and workspace per safety standards.
• Documents patient and specimen information in the laboratory system and ensures regulatory compliance.
• Collects timed specimens as ordered and prioritizes tasks to meet clinical needs.
• Identifies and resolves specimen issues, including rejections and recollections.
• Collaborates with healthcare team to clarify orders and communicate specimen status.
• Adheres to all laboratory and hospital safety requirements and follows procedures for accreditation.
• Performs other duties as assigned and maintains regular attendance.
• Complies with all policies and standards.
