Job description

Position Status: Part-Time
Hourly Rate: $15/hr.
Location/Address: 6650 W. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46241

The Outlet Associate assists the outlet leadership in reaching the operational goals of the site by functioning in various capacities within the outlet location. Some of the duties include cashiering, rotating bins, moving furniture, sorting recyclables, accepting donations, and providing high level customer service. The environment is production- and safety-focused, and all positions have daily quotas to reach.

Responsibilities
Front of House Roles:
  • Ring up customer orders, maintain a balanced drawer, and follow all cash handling procedures and protocols.
  • Provide general information about Goodwill programs, answer questions, and direct higher-level questions to the appropriate associate or manager.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the sales floor (purge, run carts, merchandise).
  • Safely move properly priced and tagged furniture to the sales floor and arrange it orderly.
  • Assist customers with furniture carry‑out requests.
  • Assist with the rotation of commodity bins on the sales floor and sort items accordingly.
  • Exhibit a willingness to cross‑train in various outlet functions.
Back of House Roles:
  • Sort and separate recyclable items from salvaged items and place them in appropriate containers.
  • Pull full commodity bins to the staging area and set up and label them accordingly.
  • Meet all designated daily production/quality quotas and update production sheets.
  • Sort through commodity bins to ensure all personal and confidential materials have been removed from donated items.
  • Notify leadership when money, credit cards, weapons, and personal or questionable objects are found.
  • Accept donations from customers, maintain a clean and clear donation door, and educate customers on current Goodwill promotions, including the rewards program.
  • Quickly and accurately sort products and distribute them to appropriate areas.
  • Maintain an efficient working area by ensuring the backroom is clean and organized (all boxes labeled, everything in its place, and a place for everything). Keep area swept and clear of spills.
  • Load and unload trucks as needed and regularly use heavy equipment, including a pallet jack, double stacker, floor scrubber, tipper, baler, and hydraulic lift.
Required Competencies
  • Degree and Credential Requirements: None. We value candidates who can demonstrate capability and articulate how prior experiences will help them contribute. Continuous learning and professional development are encouraged.
  • Knowledge of Warehouse Processes: Familiarity with receiving, putaway, storage, picking, packing, and shipping. Experience with pallet jack, double stacker, baler, and/or tipper.
  • Communication Skills: Articulates thoughts and expresses ideas effectively in oral, written, visual, and non‑verbal communication, and listens to comprehend customer needs.
  • Customer Focus: Ability to see, comprehend, and relate with customers impartially and effectively, build and maintain customer satisfaction with products and services.
  • Mathematical Aptitude: Adds and subtracts two‑digit numbers and multiplies and divides with 10s and 100s. Performs these operations using units of American money and weight measurement, volume, and distance.
  • Reasoning Ability: Applies common sense to instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Deals with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
  • Teamwork: Works well with others and makes valued contributions to the outputs of others.
  • Ethical: Adheres to procedures and protocols, maintains confidentiality, and follows Goodwill’s values.
  • Attention to Detail: Attends to details and pursues quality in accomplishing tasks, including safety awareness.
  • Time Management: Manages one's own time and the time of others effectively.
Preferred Competencies
  • Technical Knowledge: Familiarity with computers and relevant software, including basic computer and Internet navigation skills.
