Job summary

NatureBridge seeks a Permanent Substitute Educator for Yosemite National Park to deliver environmental science programs with youth in a dynamic outdoor setting. The role is part-time, often during peak seasons, and requires flexibility to teach 3–5 day programs from 9am to 4pm with paid prep time.

You will lead field-based activities, ensure student safety, and support program reflection, documentation, and gear maintenance across the campus.

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of relevant formal or informal teaching experience.
• The social and emotional skills to build rapport and positive relationships with people from all backgrounds.
• A demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion within teaching and workplace communities.
• Ability to communicate clearly to different groups.
• A desire to learn and grow, and openness to feedback and coaching.
• Capacity to pivot quickly and manage logistical changes with composure.
• Wilderness First Responder Certification or willingness to attain it before start date.
• Ability to perform physically challenging work outdoors and hike 5-7 miles.

Responsibilities

• Lead multi-day, student-centered, experiential environmental science programs in outdoor settings.
• Facilitate inclusive instruction that connects learning to students’ lives and communities.
• Engage students in scientific practices through hands-on investigations and align with outcomes.
• Follow risk management policies and document first aid as necessary.
• Foster a supportive, respectful learning environment and model environment-friendly behavior.
• Design and lead evening programs or assist guest presenters about twice weekly.
