Job summary

Reston Hospital Center is seeking a Registered Nurse for the Operating Room on a part-time basis. You will evaluate patients prior to surgery, provide perioperative education, and assist with IV therapy and medication administration to ensure safe, high-quality care.

You will collaborate with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and staff to uphold patient safety and workflow efficiency, while participating in site verification and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications

• BLS certification required within 30 days of start date.
• RN license valid in Virginia, or eligibility to obtain prior to start date.
• Associate Degree in Nursing required.

Responsibilities

• Evaluate patients prior to surgery.
• Provide patient and family education about procedures and perioperative process.
• Manage patient preparation including IV therapy and preoperative meds.
• Participate in surgical site verification (briefing, time out, debriefing).
• Recognize and respond to patient emergencies with safe nursing care.
• Collaborate with inter-disciplinary team to deliver care.
• Apply nursing process, critical thinking and leadership during shift.
• Monitor patient condition and document changes accurately.
• Educate patients and families about condition, treatment, and follow-up.
