Job summary

Indiana University is seeking a part-time Optometry Technician to support IU School of Optometry clinics in Bloomington. The role involves providing high-quality patient care, operating imaging equipment for clinical care and student instruction, and coordinating referrals and exam records.

You will work with faculty to optimize clinic operations and ensure compliant handling of documentation. The position requires a high school diploma (GED/HSED acceptable) and prefers 1 year of optometric

  • 1 year optometric technician experience preferred.
  • Proficient communication, ability to work independently, advanced optical knowledge.

  • Transmits image data to databases and corrects system errors.

  • Schedules outside referrals and distributes exam records via fax, email, or mail.
  • Works directly with faculty to optimize clinic-wide patient care.
  • Collects federally required documentation and triages incoming patient concerns.

OPTOMETRY (BL-OPT-IUBLA)

  • Provides high-quality patient care.
  • Supports Indiana University (IU) School of Optometry clinics.
  • Uses specialized imaging equipment for patient care and student instruction.
  • Transmits image data to databases and corrects system errors.
  • Trains and supervises optometry students on clinical care and administrative policies.
  • Schedules outside referrals and distributes exam records via fax, email, or mail.
  • Works directly with faculty to optimize clinic-wide patient care.
  • Collects federally required documentation and triages incoming patient concerns.
EDUCATION
Required
  • High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED).
WORK EXPERIENCE
Preferred
  • 1 year of optometric technician experience.
SKILLS
Required
  • Proficient communication skills.
  • Ability to complete work independently.
  • Advanced optical knowledge.

Most weeks up to 29 hours per week.

Monday 8:00 AM-5:00 PM, Wednesday 8:00 AM-1:00 PM, Thursday 12:00 PM-5:00 PM, and Friday 8:00 AM-5:00 PM.
