The City of Fort Worth invites applications for a Substitute Municipal Judge in the Municipal Court Judicial Division. This part-time role will assist with all operations at the A. D. Marshall Municipal Court Building and Belknap Detention Center in downtown Fort Worth.

Judges may work up to 19 hours per week, including day/evening/weekend shifts. Appointments are for two-year terms beginning April 1, with duties spanning arraignment and various dockets under municipal jurisdiction.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school.
• Two (2) or more years of experience in the practice of law in Texas.
• Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Texas attorney license and good standing.
• Be a citizen of the United States and the State of Texas.
• Reside in Fort Worth at the time of appointment.
• Maintain residence in Fort Worth during tenure.

Responsabilités

• Presides over dockets as assigned (plea, juvenile/truancy, environmental/code, revocation, arraignment).
• Arbitrates disputes and advises counsel and parties on procedures.
• Issues warrants; sets and forfeits bail for Class C misdemeanors; sets bail for felonies and misdemeanors.
• Processes warrant queues and various dockets.
• Reviews new laws and major court decisions relevant to procedures.
• Attends staff meetings and continuing education; works all shifts, including overnights/weekends.
