Job summary

I-2-I Solutions, Inc. in Birmingham, AL seeks a part-time Laboratory Assistant to support daily lab operations from sample receipt to analysis and reporting in an ISO 17025 accredited microbiology lab.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s degree in Biology or a related field (or an associate’s with 1+ year experience), hands-on lab coursework, and comfort with Excel. Training is provided, with ~25 hours per week at $18/hour.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent in a relevant science field
• Hands-on lab coursework (pipetting, aseptic technique, plating)
• Strong attention to detail and meticulous record keeping
• Comfortable with Excel and data entry
• Able to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for long periods
• Authorized to work in the United States
• Willing to work in a BSL-2 lab and handle biohazardous materials safely

Responsibilities

• Receive samples, verify custody forms, labels and temperatures, and log samples
• Process samples for Legionella and HPC under supervision
• Read and record plate results at required times
• Perform water chemistry tests (pH, conductivity, hardness)
• Prepare culture media and reagents
• Maintain quality control records and equipment logs
• Enter results accurately and verify data before reports are released
• Assemble and ship sampling kits to field teams
• Keep lab and glassware clean and organized
• Assist with supply inventory and tracking
• Follow all laboratory safety and PPE procedures
