Job summary

Hometown Urgent Care is seeking a Medical Assistant to support clinicians with patient history, vital signs, and a range of basic testing and procedures. You will perform phlebotomy, assist with exams, and handle paperwork for lab tests in a fast-paced urgent care setting.

The position requires 1–2 years of clinic experience, basic computer skills, and CPR certification. Expect a variable schedule, with at least 2 days per week and alternating weekend shifts, across designated care centers.

Qualifications

• Experience in physician practice or clinic is preferred.
• CPR certification is required.
• Ability to work independently with good judgment.

Responsibilities

• Take patient history and record vital signs.
• Perform basic testing and screenings (vision, audio, urine drug screens, EKGs, spirometry).
• Perform phlebotomy and collect lab samples with proper paperwork.
• Conduct point-of-care tests (strep, flu, glucose, pregnancy tests, urinalysis).
• Dispense and document medications and treatments.
• Maintain HIPAA confidentiality and clean/sterilize equipment.
• Schedule records and coordinate care with providers and referrals.
• Assist providers with exams and imaging or procedures as needed.

As a Medical Assistant at Hometown Urgent Care, you will play a crucial role in supporting healthcare delivery by assisting healthcare professionals in various clinical and administrative tasks. Your contribution will be vital in ensuring the safety, welfare, and comfort of our patients.

Please Note: This position will require at least 2 days per week plus every other weekend shifting. This cannot be weekend only at this time. The days of the week will vary and you will know your schedule 2.5 - 3 weeks in advance.

Duties

• Responsible for taking patient history and obtain vital signs
• Perform basic testing or screenings such as: vision, audio, urine drug screens, breath alcohol, EKGs, pulmonary function testing
• Perform necessary phlebotomy for collection of laboratory samples
• Accurately complete corresponding paperwork/computer work for lab tests ordered on blood, urine, tissue, and culture samples
• Able to perform subcutaneous, intradermal, and intramuscular injections and accurately complete paperwork according to policy for that procedure
• Perform point of care testing such as: strep, mono, glucose, influenza, Urine pregnancy, Urinalysis, blood glucose levels
• Dispense and document medications and other treatment modalities
• Insure sterile technique, instrument cleaning and sterilization, proper use of the autoclave
• Schedule and coordinate necessary records for ancillary care for patients
• Assist providers with exams and testing (pelvic exams, eye irrigations and ear irrigations, I & D's and splinting/ ortho-glass preparation
• Perform occupational medicine testing such as: urine drug screens, breath alcohol testing, audiogram, and DOT physicals
• Maintain confidentiality with all patient information (HIPAA)
• Ensures equipment is in working order. Reports equipment malfunctions to manager
• Logs laboratory procedures completed. Processes related paperwork using computer equipment as directed
• Responsible for patient call backs, scheduling physician referrals; specialist's referrals and pharmacy issues; and patient's education
• Maintains examination rooms, sterilization of equipment and stocks necessary medical supplies
• Performs duties to ensure good patient flow
• Registration duties: explain to patients' accepted insurances and those out of network and knowledgeable of all pricing. Properly collect and record payments, complete registration screen in a timely manner
• Travel to care centers within designated region
• Protects patients' rights by maintaining confidentiality of personal information
• Cleans and stocks the site with other members of the team
• Training other team members
• Additional job responsibilities may be assigned

Requirements

• 1-2 years previous experience working in a physician practice or clinic setting is preferred
• Basic computer skills, including the use of Electronic Medical Records (EMR)
• Ability to function independently without close supervision, and to consistently exercise discretion and the highest level of good clinical and other professional judgment
• Ability to complete and maintain CPR certification
