Job summary

Project Oceanology in Groton, CT seeks a part-time Marine Science Educator to deliver engaging programs for students, campers, and the public. The role includes teaching, program development, and alignment with local curricula, with duties across vessels, shore sites, and classrooms.

Based in Groton, CT, the educator must be available to work at other Connecticut sites as needed. Flexible scheduling, including some evenings and weekends, is required, and maintenance of aquaria and animal care

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of marine science and coastal ecosystems.
  • Aptitude for educating others and classroom management.
  • Ability to engage diverse ages and backgrounds.
  • Strong interpersonal and written communication skills.
  • Spanish language skills desirable.

Responsibilities

  • Presents oceanographic content and teaches lessons to a wide range of ages.
  • Assists in modifying activities to align with curricula and frameworks.
  • Delivers programs aboard vessels, shoreline locations, laboratories, and classrooms.
  • Maintains safety and logistics for field activities, including evenings and weekends.
  • Teaches after-school programs and coordinates with staff.
  • Supports aquaria through feeding and maintenance.
  • Creates a safe, supportive, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Collaborates with school officials, the public, students, and coworkers.
