Job summary

Garden Home Community Library is seeking two part-time Library Assistants to join the Garden Home & West Slope Community Libraries team. The Library Assistant is responsible for customer service, checking out and checking in materials, shelving library collections, and creating and maintaining patron accounts. The position reports to the Library Supervisor.

Pre-employment background check is required. Appointments are for about 12 hours per week with two shifts, Tuesday and Saturday or Friday

Qualifications

• Experience delivering customer service in a public setting.
• Ability to read, write and understand English.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Familiarity with Dewey Decimal Classification (DDC) is a plus.
• Ability to learn the WCCLS automated system.

Responsibilities

• Serve as primary contact at the circulation desk.
• Answer phones and respond to inquiries from the public.
• Shelve books and materials; re-shelve or place on reserve.
• Register borrowers and maintain patron records.
• Check materials in/out and review for damage.
• Assist patrons with computers and library equipment.
• Open/close the library and keep it tidy.
• Stay informed on operational changes via email.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.
