Job summary

The Allentown School District is seeking a Part-Time Learning Support Paraprofessional to assist licensed staff and support students with disabilities. This instructional support role involves one-on-one or small-group reinforcement of lessons, along with classroom management and implementing behavior plans.

Qualifications include completing required postsecondary study or higher, and state/federal clearances.

Qualifications

• Qualified as highly qualified paraprofessional under federal laws.
• Must meet basic reading, writing, and math competencies.
• Valid Act 34, 114, and Act 151 clearances.
• Valid tuberculosis test and physical examination with ADA accommodations stipulated.
• Must continue to meet the required annual obligations of Chapter 14, PA Code 22: 20 hours of approved staff development activities related to their assignment.
• U.S. citizen or holder of a valid work visa.
• Additional qualifications as determined by the board or superintendent.

Responsibilities

• Assist the principal and other professionals in maintaining a safe and orderly school environment.
• Assist the special education and regular education teachers in the delivery of instructional and tutorial strategies per the IEP.
• Under the direction of the teacher, provide instructional support for reinforcing lessons (e.g., administering tests, tutoring).
• Under the direction of the teacher, collect observational and academic data for progress monitoring.
• Maintain students' files/records for documenting activities and providing reliable information.
• Follow and implement positive behavior support plans.
• Handle students' personal needs (feeding, toileting, etc.) to support students with/without medical conditions.
• Assist with safe transitions within the school (bus, cafeteria, community-based instruction).
• Participate in specialized training related to individualized needs of students with IEPs.
• Maintain confidentiality per FERPA regulations/Chapter 14.
• Respond to emergencies per standing orders and policies.
• Perform other duties as assigned by school administration.
• When another paraprofessional is absent, reassign others to support special education as needed.
• If assigned to one student and the student is absent, reassign during that absence.
