Job summary

Northern Kentucky University’s Art & Design program is seeking a Part-time Instructor in Photography. The fixed-term position focuses on teaching courses, mentoring students, and contributing to curriculum development in a dynamic studio setting.

The ideal candidate holds an MFA in Photography or equivalent and can teach Lightroom Classic, DSLR techniques, Mac lab courses, and color printing workflows. Prior college teaching experience and studio safety are preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum: MFA in Photography or equivalent, active professional creative practice, and demonstrated knowledge of photography and digital techniques.
• Teach Lightroom Classic for image import/export and processing.
• Teach introductory photography with DSLR cameras and advanced digital camera control.
• Teach file management with SD/CF cards, external hard drives, and flash drives.
• Teach file management for digital output via Epson inkjet printers.
• Teach introductory photography courses in a Mac lab.

Responsibilities:

• Teach photography courses in the program.
• Provide student mentoring and foster a positive learning environment.
• Manage studio space, including equipment maintenance and safety.
• Support the University’s strategic priorities through curriculum development and student engagement.
• Participate in faculty meetings and professional development activities.

Qualifications:

• Minimum: MFA in Photography or equivalent, active professional creative practice, and demonstrated knowledge of photography and digital techniques.
• Required Technical Skills:
• Teach Adobe Lightroom Classic for image import/export and processing.
• Teach introductory photography with DSLR cameras and advanced digital camera control.
• Teach file management with SD/CF cards, external hard drives, and flash drives.
• Teach file management for digital output via Epson inkjet printers.
• Teach introductory photography courses in a Mac lab.
• Strongly Preferred:
• Teach all levels of photography from introductory to advanced.
• Teach Adobe Photoshop.
• Use Canvas Learning Management System for instruction.
• Experience teaching in a digital printing lab and in studio lighting.
• Skills in SSD formatting, file management, and color‑managed printing workflows.
• College‑level teaching experience.
