Position overview

Salary range: A reasonable estimate for this position is $1400 - $3400 and would also be based on the specific number of courses assigned and enrollment numbers.

Position description

The Division of Continuing Education (DCE) is a self-supporting unit within the University of California. Funding is generated through fees collected from a diverse, complex, and ever-changing student population. Part-time instructor positions are on a course by course contracted basis. This is NOT a faculty position.

Online teaching positions are available in the Facilities Management Program. We seek qualified applicants with current knowledge and/or teaching experience in Energy Management and Principles of Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning.

Instructor Duties include:

  • Develop and update course syllabi in consultation with the UCI DCE Business Programs Manager using approved templates.
  • Prepare and deliver online course materials and assessments.
  • Create video and recorded lectures, PowerPoint presentations, forums, and synchronous sessions.
  • Utilize Canvas LMS for course support.
  • Communicate learning objectives, outcomes, and grading policies clearly.
  • Evaluate student achievement and assign grades.
  • Submit final grades timely.
  • Respond to student inquiries promptly.
  • Participate in orientations and mandatory training.
  • Complete administrative tasks and contracts punctually.
  • Employ culturally competent teaching methods.
  • Allow students to review exams/papers for up to 13 months.
  • Enhance curriculum with additional resources and guest speakers.
  • Update materials and monitor course evaluations for improvements.

Our courses are regularly updated to provide practical skills and current industry practices. We are continuously recruiting part-time instructors for upcoming courses, such as Energy Management for Facilities Managers and Principles of HVAC, starting Spring 2025.

Qualifications

Basic:

  • Advanced degree from an accredited institution.
  • Extensive background and current experience in contract management.

Additional:

  • Minimum 5 years professional experience in facilities management.
  • Proficiency in the subject area.
  • Commitment to academic standards and integrity.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Willingness to learn instructional technology.
  • Participation in professional associations.
  • Comfort with international students and professionals.

Preferred:

  • Experience in curriculum design and student assessment.
  • College-level teaching experience or equivalent.
