About Our Family

We are an active family of four based in Sycamore, Illinois. Our household runs at a high energy pace, anchored by two kids who are deeply involved in travel sports and a schedule that shifts week to week depending on practices, games, and road trips. One parent works fully from home in a demanding leadership role and manages a packed calendar of back-to-back meetings with household chores and travels for work one or two days per month. The other parent divides time between a home office and outside work. We also share our home with a sweet, friendly small dog who loves everyone she meets.

We are a get-it-done family. We care about keeping our home organized and our routines running smoothly even when life gets chaotic. We have a weekly cleaning team that handles deep cleaning on Wednesday afternoons, and we are looking for someone to support the everyday rhythm of the home: the laundry, the meal prep, the errands, the resets, and all the things that fall in between. We value a clean, uncluttered home and put a lot of thought into how things are organized, even when real life makes that a challenge.

We are warm, flexible, and appreciate someone who can work independently and take initiative. We communicate with respect and directness, and we genuinely want this to be a great working relationship.

Who You Are / What We're Looking For

The right person for this role is self-directed, observant, and takes pride in a job well done without needing a to-do list handed to them each day. You notice what needs to be done and you do it. You are the kind of person who would rather take action and check in afterward than wait around for permission on routine tasks. You have strong executive function, a natural eye for organization, and an ability to hold a lot of moving pieces in your head at once.

You are comfortable working in an active household alongside someone who is heads-down and unavailable during much of the day. You can communicate clearly and briefly, check in at the start and end of your shift, and handle the rest with confidence. While an average day may not leave much time to chat, you are still someone who will invest into building a successful long-term relationship with the family (including the family dog and kids).

Experience with family cooking and a good understanding of healthy, practical meal prep is a strong plus. You also likely have experience working with children, and are comfortable being a proactive and engaging presence with kids. You take pride in a tidy, well-run home, and you bring a calm, capable energy that makes everything feel more manageable for the family you support.

Key Responsibilities

Laundry & Linen Care

  • Wash, fold, and put away laundry for the full household
  • Special garment care: hang dry all athletic wear, spot treat and care for sports uniforms, and follow all general care guidelines
  • Wash and rotate sheets and towels on a weekly basis
  • Keep laundry areas tidy and well stocked

Meal Support

  • Prepare 3-4 family dinners per week based on a provided meal plan, ranging from full cooking to ingredient and component prep
  • Plot meals throughout the week to align with family Skylight calendar (e.g. crock pot meal for a busy sports evening)
  • Process and prep produce (wash/chop/properly store) so it is ready to use throughout the week
  • Create grocery lists and place orders for delivery or pickup based on provided recipes and monitoring the pantry and fridge stock
  • Follow family preferences: higher protein, vegetables at every meal, simple and wholesome
  • Handle kitchen clean-up and maintain a tidy kitchen throughout the day

Household Organization & Maintenance

  • Perform daily resets: dishes, wiping counters and surfaces, general kitchen and common area tidying between weekly cleaner visits
  • Maintain and support household organization systems throughout the home
  • Manage seasonal clothing transitions for the kids, pulling out-of-season and outgrown items and organizing for donation
  • Assist with packing and unpacking for sports weekends and family travel, including gear, dry goods, and suitcases
  • Care for approximately indoor plants and water outdoor plants in summer months
  • Assist with light event and hosting prep for Thanksgiving and occasional gatherings (pool cookouts, etc.)

Deep Cleaning & Special Projects

  • Perform regular fridge cleanouts and occasional deep cleans of oven, baseboards, and interior windows as needed
  • Dust and vacuum the basement on a recurring basis
  • Organize and maintain the basement pantry overflow area, including dry goods, paper products, and cleaning supplies; flag and discard expired items
  • Organizational projects as requested

Inventory & Errands

  • Restock pantry, fridge, and household supplies and distribute from basement storage throughout the home as needed
  • Maintain a running list of pantry and household goods (including pet supplies)
  • Handle returns, gift shopping, donation drop-offs, and miscellaneous errands as needed
  • Occasionally drop off or pick up the dog from daycare
  • Manage mail and package handling: sort mail, unpack deliveries, put items away, flag time-sensitive items (including refrigerated items)
  • Make UPS/FedEx runs with receipt documentation as needed
  • Break down and recycle boxes

Family Support

  • Provide backup school drop-off and pickup as needed (not primary)
  • Offer light onsite presence and supervision during brief periods when a parent steps out

Additional Property Support
