Job summary

Pender County Schools is seeking a part-time coach to guide student athletes in fundamental skills, strategy, and physical training, with emphasis on character and discipline. You will support team development in afternoon and evening sessions, including weekend activities as seasons demand.

You will work under the Athletic Director and Principal, ensuring adherence to NFHS standards and school policies while promoting academic eligibility and sportsmanship.

Qualifications

• Successful completion of NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching
• Annual completion of NFHS Concussions in Sports or equivalent
• If coaching cheerleading, NFHS Cheer Safety Certification
• Current CPR/AED certification; NFHS First Aid for Coaches recommended
• Must complete NFHS Sudden Cardiac Arrest after June 1 and before first practice
• Head coaches must attend one NCHSAA state rules clinics

Responsibilities

• Holds organizational meetings for team prospects and encourages participation
• Assesses players' skills and assigns team positions
• Develops regular practice schedules for team and individual development
• Schedules facilities for practices and competitions with athletic director
• Assigns duties to an assistant coach as needed
• Coaches and instructs players on rules, equipment, and techniques
• Observes players to determine needs for improvement
• Determines game strategy based on team capabilities
• Maintains standards of student behavior and supervision of athletes
• Monitors academics to ensure eligibility and encourage high standards
• Follows procedures in case of injuries
• Conferences with parents regarding athletic performance
• Follows state, conference, and district regulations
• Represents team to booster clubs and community
• Maintains equipment and inventory
• Assists with maintenance of athletic playing areas
• Attends staff development and clinics
• Performs other duties as assigned by Principal and Athletic Director
