Part Time Health Sciences Lab Assistant (Future Opportunities)

Job Responsibilities:

  • Maintain lab space, laboratory storage rooms, and laboratory equipment.
  • Prepare lab equipment and supplies, including assembly/disassembly and delivery according to semester course schedules provided by Professional Faculty.
  • Assist in preparation (assembly/disassembly) of simulation scenarios as requested by reporting staff, faculty, or administration.
  • Maintain linen needs for health labs, including collection of linen bags, distribution of linens, and document linen tracking.
  • Perform administrative support tasks such as photocopying, tracking needed supplies, and other directed tasks.
  • Prepare laboratory materials, supplies, and equipment for health science courses.
  • Clean and sterilize lab equipment and surfaces following proper safety and sanitation procedures.
  • Assist in inventory, tracking, and restocking lab supplies and equipment.
  • Dispose of medical supplies or waste according to safety protocols.
  • Maintain accurate records of lab usage, equipment check-outs, and safety compliance.
  • Monitor equipment for damage or malfunctions and report issues to reporting staff, faculty, or administration.
  • Support faculty during lab sessions, guiding them in equipment usage and addressing questions.
  • Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and institutional policies and procedures.
  • Assist with equipment maintenance and lab set‑up in all areas of the campus.
  • Attend campus regularly and be flexible for occasional evening or weekend hours.
  • Utilize technology, including AI‑enabled tools and software where appropriate, to support performance while ensuring compliance with confidentiality requirements, institutional policies, and applicable regulations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Hours/Schedule: Part‑time position with a varied schedule based on semester course offerings for up to 20 hours per week; occasional evening or weekend hours may be required.

Physical Demands: Frequent standing for long periods, lifting up to 50 lbs., safe handling of medical supplies; ability to lift, carry, and transfer lab equipment, media, computers, and materials as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Knowledge of computers and basic software.
  • Basic understanding of laboratory procedures and safety protocols.
  • Strong organizational, time‑management, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to understand and accurately execute instructions with detail, whether verbal or written.
  • Ability to meet physical demands.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills – both verbal and written.
  • Honesty, integrity, professionalism, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to use workplace technology relevant to the position, including the capacity to learn and appropriately leverage emerging AI‑supported tools; assess the accuracy and reliability of AI‑generated content, maintain confidentiality, and apply sound judgment and ethical practices in the use of technology.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous lab or healthcare experience.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology.

Salary/Hourly Rate: $17.21 per hour.
