Job summary

Town of Davidson is seeking a dedicated firefighter to join our 24-hour fire suppression team. You will respond to alarms, operate hoses and ladders, and provide medical assistance until EMS arrives.

You’ll also perform vehicle and equipment maintenance and participate in fire prevention training and public education programs. The role requires physical fitness, ability to work under stress, and strong teamwork.

Qualifications

• General knowledge of firefighting equipment and principles.
• Ability to exercise sound judgement in routine and emergency situations.
• Ability to maintain vehicles, equipment and facilities.
• Ability to establish effective working relationships with other employees and the public.

Responsibilities

• Respond to fire alarms with a company; lay and connect hose; direct water streams and use firefighting tools.
• Ventilate burning buildings by opening windows or cutting holes.
• Provide medical assistance to fire victims until EMS arrival.
• Perform salvage operations and debris removal.
• Participate in training and fire prevention programs and drills.
• Inspect buildings for hazards and maintain hydrants.
• Operate fire apparatus and occasionally assume command when supervisory staff unavailable.
• Maintain and clean equipment and station facilities.
• Provide tours and educational programs on fire safety to groups.
• Use department computers to input and access records.
• Inspect and maintain fire hydrants as per SOPs.
