Job summary

Columbia State Community College seeks part-time nursing faculty to teach across multiple campuses in Tennessee. Faculty are hired as needed per semester, teaching up to nine credits and may travel to off-campus or clinical sites.

Salary is paid per credit hour, with workload adjustments when contact hours exceed credit hours. Travel stipends may be negotiated for long-distance teaching, and subsequent employment depends on teaching experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required.
• Master's degree in Nursing preferred.
• Licensed in Tennessee as a Registered Nurse (or eligible).
• Current CPR (BLS/AED).

Responsibilities

• Prepare for courses as assigned and follow department syllabi and learning outcomes.
• Begin and end all classes as scheduled.
• Organize and supervise learning activities for students.
• Maintain academic standards and classroom behavior for a conducive learning environment.
• Evaluate students using various methods and provide timely feedback on scores.
• Maintain attendance records and grades.
• Read Columbia State email and respond to student questions promptly.
• Meet deadlines for administrative tasks such as paperwork and enrollment.

Job Summary

Part time faculty are hired as needed on a semester-to-semester basis and typically teach up to nine credit hours during the semester. Columbia State offers classes at five campuses: Columbia Campus, Williamson Campus, Lawrenceburg Campus, Lewisburg Campus, and Clifton Campus. Columbia State also offers classes at several off-campus locations and clinical sites.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Nursing; Master’s degree in Nursing preferred. Experientially qualified in Foundations, Medical/Surgical, Pediatrics, Mental Health, or Women’s Health. Licensed in Tennessee as a Registered Nurse (or immediately eligible). Current CPR (BLS/AED).

Part-Time Faculty Duties and Responsibilities

The part-time faculty member reports directly to the dean for assignments/duties and is responsible for:

• Preparing for courses as assigned and adhering to departmental course syllabi and course minimum student learning outcomes.
• Beginning and ending all classes as schedules.
• Organizing, assigning, and supervising learning activities of students in his/her classes.
• Maintaining academic standards and classroom behavior to ensure an environment conducive to learning. Evaluating students using a variety of methods and for informing each student of scores received on each assessment in a timely manner.
• Maintaining accurate records of student attendance/participating and grades.
• Reading Columbia State email and responding to student questions via email in a timely manner.
• Meeting deadlines for all administrative requests such as submitting personnel paperwork, student enrollment

Salary is $560 per credit hour. Workload adjustments will be made for faculty teaching classes where the number of contact hours exceeds the number of credit hours. Additionally, a travel stipend may be negotiated at time of hire for faculty traveling more than 80 miles each week to teach their classes. For part-time faculty who continue to work at Columbia State, salary is based on collegiate level teaching experience documented during the first semester of teaching.
