Job summary

Portland Community College invites qualified part-time faculty to join our Mathematics pool. Instructors teach courses across PCC campuses and engage students with diverse learning needs. You will contribute to curriculum alignment and student success while supporting equity and inclusion in the classroom.

Applicants may be considered for substitute or full-term class assignments during the academic year. Review PCC Course Catalog and indicate which courses you can teach.

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Mathematics or related field; and licensure/credentials as required by PCC.
  • Relevant graduate coursework in mathematics (18 quarter hours / 12 semester hours) or equivalent.
  • Qualified to teach mathematics courses at the college level and in alignment with PCC qualifications policy.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a diverse educational environment and support equity in student learning.

Responsibilities

  • Teach mathematics courses at PCC campuses as needed.
  • Review applications and assess candidate qualifications for course assignments.
  • Participate in the Part-Time Faculty pool process and substitute assignments as needed.
  • Comply with PCC instructor qualifications policy and contractual agreements.

Portland Community College is accepting applications to be considered for Part-Time Faculty assignments in Mathematics. Courses in math are taught at all four PCC campuses. The Department will review applications in this pool as the need arises for new part-time faculty in this area.

This is NOT an announcement of a specific open position, but a Part-time Faculty Interest Pool, from which the department will identify applicants based on course assignment needs during the Academic Year. Your application may be considered for substitute assignments as well as full term class assignments.

Instructor Qualifications

  • Master’s degree (MS, MA) in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or Statistics; OR

  • Master’s degree in Mathematics Education or Master’s degree in Teaching (e.g., MST, MAT) with an emphasis in mathematics; AND Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Applied Mathematics, or Statistics; AND 18 quarter hours (12 semester hours) in graduate level mathematics, OR

  • Master’s degree in a field related to mathematics†;
    AND 27 quarter hours (18 semester hours) in graduate-level mathematics

Demonstrated Competency for part-time faculty and dual credit instructors may also be satisfied by other qualifications, if the above Minimum Instructor Qualifications have not been met. Please see the full PCC Math Instructor Qualifications page for specific details.

These positions are included in the bargaining agreement between Portland Community College and the Portland Community College Faculty Federation Employees.

Part-time Faculty Compensation at PCC

Newly hired Part-time Faculty at PCC will generally start at Step 1 of the current salary schedule.

Hourly rates are determine based upon the type of course taught (Lecture, Lab, or Lecture/Lab).

The ASR contains current security and safety-related policy disclosure statements, emergency preparedness and evacuation information, crime prevention and sexual assault prevention information and resources, and drug and alcohol prevention programming. The ASR also contains crime statistics for Clery Act crimes which occurred on PCC properties for the last three calendar years.
