Job summary

Portland Community College is seeking part-time Chinese faculty to join our team. Instructors will be evaluated through proficiency interviews and are expected to have graduate-level language credentials.

The department reviews applications as needs arise, and instructors will list courses they can teach in PCC’s catalog. Applicants should demonstrate strong teaching ability with vita and supporting materials.

Qualifications

  • Native or near native ability (to be assessed through a proficiency interview).
  • One year of college teaching experience in related subject.
  • Teaching ability demonstrated by vita and supporting materials.
  • Recent completion of a 3-credit graduate course in college-level Second Language Teaching Methods/Methodology for the language (or planned during first term).

Responsibilities

  • Teach part-time Chinese courses as assigned.
  • Prepare and deliver engaging lectures and assessments.
  • Contribute to course development and student support.

Portland Community College is accepting applications to be considered for Part-Time Faculty assignments in Chinese. The Department will review applications in this pool as the need arises for new part-time faculty in this area.

Our Program and Who We Are Looking For

Instructor Qualifications
  • Preferred candidates will hold a Masters of Arts in the language

  • An MAT in the language may be considered if accompanied by 30 graduate credit hours in the language, linguistics, literature and culture. Candidates holding a Master of Arts in a related field from an accredited university with a minimum of 30 graduate credit hours in the language may also be considered.

  • Native or near native ability (to be assessed through a proficiency interview)

  • One year of previous college teaching experience in related subject required

  • Teaching ability as evidenced by vita and support materials

  • Recent completion of a 3 credit graduate level course on college-level Second Language Teaching Methods/Methodology for the language (or required completion of such a course during first term of employment at PCC)

Part-time Faculty Compensation at PCC

Newly hired Part-time Faculty at PCC will generally start at Step 1 of the current salary schedule.

Hourly rates are determine based upon the type of course taught (Lecture, Lab, or Lecture/Lab).
