Job summary

Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ) is seeking a Maintenance Worker to support our Facilities Department. This role involves routine custodial tasks to keep HCZ sites clean and compliant with Health Department and Board of Ed standards.

The position requires a high school diploma or GED, prior experience, and the ability to lift heavy objects. It offers a flexible, part-time schedule with evening shifts and weekend coverage, plus PT benefits. HCZ is an EOE and sponsors no visas.

Qualifications

• Must have a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Must have prior experience.
• Must pass a fingerprint background check and Physical/TB test.

Responsibilities

• Gather and empty trash.
• Service, clean, and supply restrooms.
• Clean and polish furniture and fixtures.
• Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors.
• Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment.
• Vacuum, steam-clean and/or shampoo carpets.
• Sweep, mop, strip, seal, finish, and/or polish floors.
• Clean laboratory equipment, such as glassware and metal instruments, using solvents, brushes, rags, and power cleaning equipment.
• Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment, in order to prevent damage.
• Move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies, either manually or by using hand trucks.
• Notify the immediate supervisor of all facility-related items at the assigned site.
• Remove snow from sidewalks, driveways, and parking areas as needed.
• Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
• Set up, arrange, and remove decorations, tables, chairs, ladders, and scaffolding to prepare facilities for events such as banquets and meetings.
