Overview

The Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Community College District is a collaborative and inclusive organization that strives for equity and equal opportunity and that serves a diverse student population. Under administrative leadership, it is the responsibility of the part-time college instructor to teach classes, and to participate in processes that will result in continuous improvement of instruction and programs, student success and completion, and advancement of the vision, mission, and values of Shasta College. All Temporary Part-time Instructors are compensated in accordance with the terms of the collective bargaining agreement between Shasta-Tehama-Trinity Joint Community College District and Shasta College Faculty Association/CTA/NEA.

Responsibilities
  • Classroom Responsibilities: Meet classes/laboratories as assigned within the academic calendar and/or during intersessions and summer sessions.
  • Develop and implement instruction for each class and laboratory period, consistent with the official course outline and District guidelines.
  • For online and hybrid courses, maintain online course components, including asynchronous or synchronous content delivery, as required by the teaching assignment.
  • For online and hybrid courses, provide regular student-student and student-instructor contact.
  • During the first week of class, develop and distribute a syllabus for each course to communicate to students the course description, objectives, grading, testing, attendance, and other requirements, in accordance with District guidelines on syllabus content.
  • Provide regular, timely feedback to students; return all graded work in a timely fashion.
  • Assign final grades for courses as required by District policy, administrative procedures, California Education Code, and Title 5.
  • Demonstrate respect for student rights as specified in District policy and applicable laws.
  • Submit requisitions for textbooks and instructional materials in a timely manner and with consideration of cost to the student.
  • Refer students to tutoring and related student services when appropriate.
  • Supervise students in off-campus activities when participation is expected as part of a course requirement or where such supervision is part of the instructor's load.
  • Provide academic assistance and related services to students during scheduled office hours.
  • Participate in professional development to remain current in the assigned discipline.
  • Submit required administrative paperwork, including student learning outcomes in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Discipline-specific classroom responsibilities as assigned.
  • Additional Responsibilities: Participate in the evaluation process as described in the faculty collective bargaining agreement; continue to develop professional skills and remain current in subject matter knowledge; keep and submit official records required by District policy and administrative procedures; abide by District policies concerning District property and safety; report absences due to illness or for personal necessity to the supervising administrator; recommend purchases of instructional supplies and equipment as needed; fulfill all obligations as established in the current collective bargaining agreement.
  • Other Activities: Part-time faculty are encouraged to engage in the following activities, but these are not required. Some activities may be eligible for flex pay or stipends: schedule and maintain office hours and communicate them clearly to students and division staff; participate in governance and curriculum development processes; participate in program review, annual planning, department and division meetings; assess learning outcomes and participate in learning outcomes processes; participate in required professional development activities aimed at improving pedagogy and student success.
Qualifications and Experience

Education Required: Master’s in the ethnic studies field
OR Master’s in American Studies/Ethnicity, Latino Studies, La Raza Studies, Central American Studies, Latin American Studies, Cross-Cultural Studies, Race and Ethnic Relations, Asian-American Studies, or African-American Studies
OR the equivalent
OR Master’s in the interdisciplinary area
OR Master’s in one of the disciplines included in the interdisciplinary area and upper-division or graduate course work.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Curriculum Development
  • Experience and/or training in online teaching, pedagogy, and Universal Design
  • Master’s in 1) Asian American Studies, 2) Latinx Studies and 3) Native American Studies

Experience Required:

  • Demonstrated sensitivity to, and understanding of, the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of staff and students, as well as staff members and students with physical and/or learning disabilities.
