Job description

Part‑Time ESL Program Instructor – 2025‑2026 (JobID: 4754). Location: to be determined. Position type: teaching/professional, adult education. Posting Date: May 3, 2025. Closing: until filled.

10‑month position, 6‑10 hours per week. Flexible after‑school or evening hours (3:15‑5:15 pm or 5‑7:45 pm) depending on program needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide instruction to in‑school, out‑of‑school youths, and adults in academic content areas to meet Delaware high‑school graduation requirements or ESL/ABE level improvement goals.
  • Prepare lesson plans in advance that match district and state curriculum expectations.
  • Maintain accurate records, tests, reports, and assessments in compliance with Delaware statutes, federal regulations, and school board policy.
  • Establish and maintain good rapport and communication with students, school personnel, administrators, and parents.
  • Create an equitable classroom atmosphere conducive to learning and use classroom time effectively.
  • Uphold school regulations as identified in teacher and student handbooks and supported by board policy.
  • Collaborate closely with counselors and staff to support students on the pathway to graduation.
  • Perform other duties and responsibilities assigned by the administration.
  • Work flexibility to accommodate afternoons or evenings as required.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Eligibility for Delaware licensure as a Secondary English, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, or Spanish teacher, or Adult Education certification in ABE/ESL level(s).
  • For new teachers, eligibility for Delaware licensure and passing Praxis I (or CORE) and Praxis II scores for the applicable position.
  • Special Education experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of Delaware State Content Standards, Assessment & Accountability.
  • Excellent communication, organizational, and computer skills.

Compliance – Licensure / Certification / Permit: Failure to meet or maintain any of the licensing or certification requirements listed above may result in withdrawal of the job offer or termination of employment. Employees may be subject to disciplinary action up to dismissal for deficiencies or misrepresentation.

Physical Requirements

Stand, walk, or sit for prolonged periods; express ideas orally; occasionally lift, carry, or push objects up to 25 pounds.

  • Documentation of identification and employment eligibility in the U.S., I‑9 completion, and Delaware Child Protection Registry paperwork.
